Pieces of Our Lives: Family Artifacts from Behind Barbed Wire Exhibit

February 14-26, 2023

Cal Poly Humboldt Library, Arcata

Pieces of Our Lives exhibit by the Humboldt Asians & Pacific Islanders in Solidarity returned to the Cal Poly Humboldt Library for the 2rd time in February 2023. The exhibit was on display from February 14-26, 2023, in recognition of the Day of Remembrance (February 19th, the signing of Executive Order 9066). It explored the social and personal impact of the forced mass incarceration of 120,000 Japanese Americans during World War II. On display in the large case off of the lobby was family objects from the Humboldt County Japanese American Community who were either forcibly removed from their home and incarcerated as children or whose grandparents, mothers, fathers, uncles and aunts were imprisoned in incarceration camps during WWII. Ten large banners about the ten camps and different aspects about the camps were on display in the Library's Nordstrom Lobby. A discussion was led by HAPI in front of the exhibit on February 22 and attended by Cal Poly Students and the pubic.
