What is Taiko?

The Japanese word taiko refers to any type of drum and has roots in ancient Japan. In North America, taiko is associated with the heart-pounding ensemble drumming or kumidaiko. This modern form of taiko performed in the U.S. was invented in Japan in 1951 and came to the U.S. in the late 1960s.
