Migrations 2022 - Walking Together

HAPI Presents: the History of Chinese Immigrants in Humboldt

October 1, 2022

Cahill Park, Arcata

Playhouse Arts presents MIGRATIONS: Walking Together, an original ensemble-created multi-disciplinary, multicultural performance project.

This story starts with the Chinese immigrants to Humboldt County in the late 1800s. It is a tale of 3Rs: resilience, resistance, and return. Please join us in hearing the unheard voices and perspectives of Humboldt’s Chinese community from the past to the present.

There are nine different speakers at nine stations with different words and concepts that capture the journey of Humboldt’s Chinese immigrants. These words in both Chinese and English will appear on concrete markers as part of Eureka Chinatown Project’s monument which will be installed next year. Let’s make this journey together. As we listen to the stories of our Chinese community from its earliest beginnings to the present.
